They sell lots of neon/electroluminescent/led covered clothes and have a constantly changing range.. If you are rich and cyber/techno goth then cyberdog is your first port of call for a new outfit.. If your poor and cyber/techno goth then cyberdog is your first port of call to spy cool outfits you can badger your friend with a sewing machine to make you. You are unlikly to walk away with anything for less than 30 quid.. |
Vintage to Festish
Vintage to festish is sells goth party gear of all descriptions including: PVC clothes + bags, rubber dresses/tops/skirts, UV collars/wings/wrist bands, wigs, velvet dresses, corsetry, assorted fetish gear.. Basically this is a haven for all sorts of weird clothes. Vintage to fetish isn't the *only* place in manchester to get some of the things they sell and it isn't cheap however to look through a range of clothes or for special outfits & corsetry then this is probably the only shop you need.
Hot shop.
This shop probably has the biggest selection of PVC in Machester.. It is an underwear shop so some of the merchendise is direly sad. (Yes we want crotchless orange knickers..) However there is quite a lot of cool PVC stuff and they will order your size if they don't have it.. Sells some of the stuff findable in Vintage to fetish and is generally cheaper and they have a bigegr range.. If you dare to go in then this is a great shop.. (If your male you *will* get funny looks) however the staff are all very good and are happy to advise blokes and grrlz on PVC and stuff :)

M1 Music
Collectors type prices, but good for that hard-to-get 80s record. Has a reasonable range of 7" singles too. If you can't find it in the Vinyl Exchange, try here.
Arndale Market
Mostly rubbish of course - but good for hair. There's a couple of Afro hair shops down here where you can get a full range of colours in jumbo braid or Silky. Prices and availability seem to vary daily, so i won't be any more specific than that.
Alternate Image
The only Alt/Rock/Goth clothes shop I've come across in Bolton. Has a good selection of alternative clothing and jewellery (Alchemy stockist). If Jan doesn't have the item(s) you want in stock, she'll do her best to get hold it for you.

They sell a stunning variety of future fashions including: Dane cyber and deco print tops, bustiers and skirts Craig Morrison bags and rucksacks Combination shirts and collars Barry M makeup Fake fur coats by Sophia |
Piccadilly Records
Pretty wide range of records and cds. While there's not terribly much in the way of goth itself, where it's impressive is in it's selection of industrial and noise cds at the back of the store- Coil, Throbbing Gristle, Nurse With Wound, Merzbow etc. The main section is worth a look too. A lot of it's indie, but a lot isn't.

Weird & Wonderful
Very friendly shop selling an extensive range of Tarot cards, esoteric books and accessories, jewellery, clothes etc.
X-records
As a vinyl junkie, this is my idea of heaven. Forget the store in High Fidelty, this is much better. Large dedicated Goth section including lesser spotted acts such as Philip Boa, and all the records for completists eg Fur Bible, Gun Club, former bands of Patricia Morrison. Vast indie section that John Peel himself would envy. For those of you who think vinyl records make great frisbees, there is an adjacent CD section, which also has videos.

The North Witch
Stocks lots of smelly stuff, candles, and incense. The staff are also very friendly and helpful.
Grin
I went in last weekend and they have loads of cheap cyber googles :) plus uv make-up. The gothic clothing section isn't as good as it used to be, but they still have some sdl and omen stuff.

The Ginnel Gallery (Antiques)
A collection of different antique dealers under one roof, everything from Edwardian clothes to 70s tack furniture. Stock changes slowly, but worth a look every so often. Prices are good, i.e. more than junk, but cheaper than serious antiques.

Sells a comprehensive range of role-playing games, card games, boardgames, miniatures, clickies, and other curiosities. Run in-store game sessions on weeknights, and frequently hold demo events for new games. Staff are enthusiastic and helpful, and have a thorough knowledge of the games industry. | A bit of a mixed bag but they have some nice and unusual silver jewellery with a decent range of stones and huge range in most popular stones like amethyst/amber etc. Also a range of body jewellery although mostly confined to belly bars. Small range of crystals/dreamcatchers/random bits n bobs. Stock changes frequently. There is also a bigger and prettier store in the Trafford center (Regent crescent, near debenhams). It is a bit pricey but they do a student discount and loyalty card scheme. |
Attic Fancy Dress Shop
Murgen's Keep
Another refugee from the now defunct Colliseum has found a new home. Same kind of stuff as the old place, but in nice new premises and there's a rock -shirt place just downstairs and round the corner from it as well.
Gift World
Pretty fool-proof to find, due to the many items of Raven clothing in the display window! Awfully over-priced, but a nice big selection of everything gifty, think pink parrot. Gothic clothing, traditional and the odd tee shirt, Gothic decorations, gargoyles ( I think,)mirrors, and then some silk chinese dresses. You will be hassled by the assistants though, who always want you to try something on because they 'never see any REAL Goths in there...'
american graffitti

A vintage Emporium from 40S through the ages to present day.Well into the present styles, Lots of kitschy eighties at present.Bright wonderfull clothes, bags, shoes and lots of unusual items. | Te above link is about as official as it gets... This shop basically specialises in music but also has DVDs and games. What makes this shop stand out from the Rochdillian crowd is it has very rare bootlegs from the likes of Sisters Of Mercy, Nine Inch Nails and various other bands you might favour. Most CDs are priced below £5 |
Dr Rocks
Basically has everything you need to start your own (goth) band. Their instruments include the essential keyboards, synthesizers, drum kits, guitars, microphones and soundsystems but if you need anything else, just ask and they will be more than happy to order it for you. I found they were perfect to buy new hardware for my band. They also have various books and software to make the learning and practising process easier. If you have any questions, just ask these professionals.

An oasis of tranquility in a bust city if you take time out to find it. Lots of young designers have outlets here featuring everything from fashion and jewellery (RA Design is especially good)to arts, crafts and pottery. The best part for me is the cafe there. Huge sandwiches, all healthy and some tasty veggie / vegan selections and the best (and healthiest) value for money you will find in Manchester. I like this place so much, I shouldn't tell you about it! In fact, don't go there, I want it to myself!

Tattoo Studio 81
Studio 81 is based in the very centre of Manchester on Oldham Road above the Barber Shop and Body Piercing Centre. It is easy to find, and parking is best on the nearby multi story car park. The door onto the street is quite discreet so you need to look out for it next to the entrance to the Barbers. Inside you go straight up the stairs to the reception and waiting area where you will be greeted by Carol or Nicky. She will assist you and show you to the many books of designs and photographs of work done by the resident artist, who are also available to offer advice and assistance should you wish to discuss your design ideas. The studio is very smart and clean and modern in appearance, without loosing a comfortable and relaxed feel. The sofas are comfortable and the room is well laid out so that you can take your time looking at the artwork and discussing your ideas. Both artists work in the same studio, each with their own workstation. Jay and Danny both have specialist areas and their freehand designs can be seen in the books of photographs in the waiting area. The studio room is very tidy and organised and clean, allowing for privacy should it be required.
