Gunman Subspace Tragic Hero Futile (Resisted) - Velvet Acid Christ Funker Vogt |
|
Description, by jen
Formed in 1995 by three guys from Hamelin, Germany (that place the Pied Piper lured all the kids from), FV combines old-skool EBM sound with a bit of industrial distortion. Thumpy! "Funker vogt" means "radio operator" btw, kindof a tip-off that war might be a recurring theme. |

One of the few bands that manage to mix heavily distorted synths and melody to good effect.
Since the release of Tragic Hero they have been a dance floor favourite throughout Europe and for good reason.
Funker Vogt also have a side project, Ravenous, who's sound is similar but less harsh and with clean vocals.
Both are a definite must have in any serious EBM/Industrial collection.

A superb album from funker v, once again crammed full of danceable songs. Tragic Hero is excellent, and the remixes of it are superb, definitely one i look forward to hearing on a night out. 4th dimension also very danceable and a brill song. A good sound, a great blend of industrial and ebm, always perks me up when feeling down, depsite the whole war thing, its just sounds great. distortion, thumpin bassy beats and foonkay synth, great combo.

this is pretty much the only thing i can listen to by this band without being bored to tears. funker vogt have a tendancy to write and perform great songs, then ruin them with over the top samples. this is not the case with this album however. its basically one of the few good EBM albums out there, and its the most accessible to anyone dabbling in this genre.

This album consists of three Velvet Acid Christ tracks remixed by Funker Vogt, and three Funker Vogt songs remixed by VAC. At six tracks and 35 minutes it's a little short, but if we don't get quantity here, we do get quality.
There are basically three kinds of songs on the album. 'Fortunes Of War (vaporized)' and 'Futile (resisted)' are simple, catchy techno anthems, spiced up with Funker Vogt's barking vocals on the one hand and some excellent Star Trek samples on the other. Then there's 'Civil War (tripping in boot camp)', 'Malfunction (destructive)' and 'The Dead (alive)', which are slower, heavier tracks dense with film samples, closer in sound to the artists' usual output. The German war-film samples on Civil War are fun, and Malfunction is also a fine listen.
And then there's 'International Killer (we won the war mix)'. What can I say? It's fast. It's furious. It's fun. It rushes along with some fine builds, breaks and bleepy synths. The Funker Vogt vocals are as blastingly harsh and powerful as any metal guitar. Then just as you think it's winding down it hits you with a surprise drum'n'bass breakbeat, before another round of the chorus and the end. Great stuff, worth seeking out.

Thanks for Nothing is Funker Vogt`s excellent debut album. released on the now-defunct Zoth Ommog label, it was one of their later releases. It is an album of good, solid classic EBM, featuring crunchy beats, distorted vocals and the usual "War death & destructon" themes. It is certainly less accessible to those raised on a cybergoth diet of future-pop and Euro-Cheese, but as an example of traditional EBM it is a milestone. Highlights are certainly the title track and "Funker Vogt" a German language track which still can shake any dancefloor.
Buy it if you can!
