Description, by jen

Consisting solely of its 4 original members - David J Haskins & his brother Kevin, guitarist Daniel Ash & Peter Murphy - stark, artsy Bauhaus is arguably the epitomic goth band even today. Shortly after appearing in classic 80s vampire flick "The Hunger", they broke up & started other ventures (Tones on Tail, Love & Rockets, solo stuff). They reunited to tour in 1998, but there's been no new Bauhaus stuff apart from "The Dog's a Vapour", a cheerful little number for the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack.

Good old Bauhaus. The first proper goth band and one of the greatest. From the tongue in cheek nature of "bela lugosi's dead" to the sublime "silent hedges" Bauhaus usually leave a lasting impression. If you havent listened to them yet- go and find a copy now. You wont regret it.

Burning from the Inside

One of the best goth albums ever made. A total masterpiece. An album which hosts the goth-defining hit "She's in Parties". Along with the bizare moments (what does those Indians do on his bones?!!) there are some...more bizare moments. Fantastic songs like "Who Killed Mr.Moonlight?" and "Slice of Life" (which reminds me of some of the classic Madness and Squeeze hits) make you want to wedge yourself into the world's tightest jeans and spend an evening getting ready and never going out! Possibly the best album mentioned in the whole Music DB.

Ah.. my introduction to bauhaus. What can I say? Certainly I could have done a lot worse than getting their greatest hits collection. It starts off well, with "Double Dare", and progresses through classics like "Bela Lugosi's Dead" And "Silent Hedges", before finishing with "Crowds". Its 16 tracks that must be listened to by anyone who has an interest in goth music.

Two CD's of Bauhaus has to be good, even if the second CD could be described as lacking in quantity (but definitely not substance). A live album certainly may not be of the same quality of other studio tracks, but in substance this is definitely replenished. The sounds of the crowds of people gathering, to watch this spectacular event, certainly adds a little extra air of serenity; this is well captivated on the album.

In the Flat Field

This is the best bauhaus album- one of the best albums ever realeased; it begins marvellously with "dark entries", with manic shouting and fast rhyming singing, and ends with crowds, a bitter spiteful number on just piano and vocals. By far the best. It doesnt have the famousness of bela lugosi or boys, but as an album all together, it is a masterpiece.

Bauhaus second album is as good as the first. Peter Murphy croons his way through more great tracks that pound against your head demanding to be let in. Very hard to think of a best track.. but candidates are Hollow hills, Passion of lovers, In fear of dub, and The man with the x-ray eyes.

Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape

Bauhaus' first live album. Press the Eject and Give Me the Tape shows a bit of its age, but that only makes it better. Its a good album, with some great tracks on it.

The Sky's Gone Out
Featured comment (2/2) by Funeral Groom on 2001-11-27

A superb album and, in my opinion, one of the boys best. Kicking off with Third Uncle soaring through the passage of space between the speakers and your ears quickly followed by the sublime Silent Hedges, earily spokky guitar jangles and fuzzy bass backing Murphy's dramatic vocals. Then, one of the songs I like most by Bauhaus-In the Night...one fo their earlier songs, for me, this song never dies. Spirit coming 2 tracks later lights up my day no end followed by heart warming and yet spine tingling renditions of the Three Shadows (all 3 parts). With All we ever Wanted following and then the brilliant Exquisite Corpse wails of "The Sky's Gone Out" all round me thinks. On the CD version then proceeds the Ziggy Stardust cover (pure excellence) with the spoken word Party of the First part coming afterwards and filled in with an earlier version of Spirit and finished with Watch that Grandad Go...Excellent...just.....excellent.
