Description, by KarlSteiger
Formed in 1994, Californian four-piece Cinema Strange released a five-song demo cassette that sold out the same year. Yet by the end of 1994 half the band, tired of internal bickering, walked out, leaving bassist D. Allan Ribiat and vocalist Lucas Lanthier to fend for themselves. After a brief hiatus the two finally got their act together in mid-1995 and released the excellent ‘Acrobat Amaranth Automaton’ opus the following year. By 1998 Michael Ribiat had been recruited on guitar, and 2000 saw the release of ‘Falling, Caterwauling’. The band’s official biography cites the London ‘Batcave’ scene of the early-1980s as a big influence, yet CS are difficult to define. The best description I could give would be of Virgin Prunes on acid, and that’s saying something. |
