Description, by mushroom

Founded by Blixa Bargeld [also a Bad Seed] and N. U. Unruh and hailing from Berlin, Neubauten were one of the pioneers of industrial music, experimenting with white noise, industrial objects such as power drills and construction materials.

Although not their first album, 'Die Zeichnungen Des Patienten O.T' was possibly the one that gained them the most recognition. They have released albums on labels such as Thirsty Ear, Some Bizarre Records, Elektra, Nothing and Mute. Their latest release was 'Silence is Sexy', in 2000.

Translated, their title means 'new buildings collapsing' or something similar (hence their series of compilations entitled 'Strategies against Architecture').They really are experimental in the conceptual art way, sometimes very minimal. They're not what you'd call accessible in the traditional sense. 'Tabula Rasa' was one of their more melodic albums, featuring the rather good danceable remix of 'Feurio'. Perhaps a good place to start?

Silence Is Sexy

Well done to Einsturzende Neubauten here - This album is one of the most interesting examples of experimental industrial out there. It takes some listening to actually get into - not the sort of album you pick up and love every track at once. Tracks such as "Silence is Sexy" and "Heaven is of Honey" are good to sit and relax to.

Strategies Against Architecture Vol. I

carrying, almost as way a disclaimer, the explanation:'listen with pain, ears are wounds', the album largely consists of a mad german squealing like a stuck pig while more mental germans hammer furiously on various objects behind him. suffice to say, none of these tracks will ever appear on a 'drivetime' compilation. recommended only for hardcore fans and people who like to impress others with the diversity of their record collection.

A collection of live, obscure, unreleased and alternate versions of Einsturzende Neubauten's tracks from the last 10 years. This album is quite bizarre and seems very experimental in most parts - some tracks just sound like noise for the hell of it and you'd have a job finding a recognisable structure. This album is excellent for background music for fans of electronic music.
