Description, by fatalist

Storming onto the Industrial scene with the single 'Envoye!' in 1985 were Swiss band 'The Young Gods'. Named after a Swans song, the band fronted by Franz Treichler has had an ever evolving line up, making guitar driven and sample fused industrial music.
Their first few albums were harsh, Ministry-esque monsters sang entirely in French, before the band moved to the US and made the all English language Industrial Rock album 'TV Sky'. The follow-up 'Only Heaven' was even more accessible and flirted more with the bands creativity to song writing.
If the US has Ministry, then Europe's answer would have to be The Young Gods.

Perhaps one of the most original experimental outfits around. Still producing top quality albums, it can be said that the Young Gods are probably one of the only bands around at the moment who consistently create new and interesting music. Earlier classics include 'Envoye' and 'Longue Route' for chaotic noise. Although I would describe them as experimental, they're extremely accessible. Innovative and thought-provoking.

L'eau Rouge / Red Water

The second Young Gods album, 'L'eau Rouge' is much less polished than their later material, but all the more powerful for it. Produced entirely in French (don't worry, there should be a translation in the sleeve), it's a beautiful and poetic industrial masterpiece (Yes, I do know what I've just written). The highlight of the album is undoubtedly 'Longue Route' but the title track is strong as well. Not the best album for those unfamiliar with The Young Gods, but one of their best. Would highly recommend. 10/10

The Young Gods first "live" album "Live Sky Tour", was recorded at the Sarah Sands Hotel in Melbourne, Australia. It's probably one of the best live "industrial" albums ever, along side of "All That Could Have Been" by Nine Inch Nails and "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up" by Ministry. The way "Envoye/Chanson Rouge" is medleyed is amazing there's a crushing version of "Longe Route" as well and some bizarre Kurt Weil covers to round it off. A well produced, high quality live album and a must for any Young Gods fan.

Only Heaven

The long-awaited follow up to Tv Sky and a very good album indeed. Similar in style to TV Sky, Only Heaven shows the Young Gods in excellant form, combining their slower, vaguely ambient styles (child in the tree, the dreamhouse) with the energetic updeat style seen on the dancefloor (Strangel, Kissing the Sun). Just as TV sky had the 20-minute-long Summer Eyes, Only Heaven puts in the comparable 16-minute Moon Revolutions. Tv Sky was a classic - Only Heaven is even better.

Second Nature

Second Nature is the first Young Gods album on their new label Interscope and sees them making a noticeable change of direction. Fewer guitar samples leads to a much more ambient sound, but without any loss of depth. If anything, this album has greater depth than any of their past releases. The Young Gods still maintain their experimental edge, with tracks verging on minimal techno/ambient at times. Certainly worth a listen. 8/10

TV Sky

The Young Gods 3rd album TV Sky, made them famous for being the Guitar band without Guitars. The 20 minute "Doors" esque track "Summer Eyes" and the hit single "Skinflowers", were the most noticeable on the album and in 1992 they were big in the Industrial world with "Ministry" and "Nine Inch Nails". They did a world tour in support of it and recorded a live album, which would be released in 1993 titled "Live Sky Tour". This album remains their biggest and most commercial album to date.
