Excellent mix of music, with a friendly atmosphere. My only problem is that it gets a bit packed by the middle of the night (but that tends to happen at all such events).

The most fun you can have with your clothes on! Or without, if you prefer as its a pretty open minded place. Great mix of music, lots of bouncy, friendly people and cheap beer! What could me better?

Great music and great night hope it can find a new decent venue without stairs in the way and a concrete dancefloor...but when it returns can we stop playing Rock me Amadeus...please?!

Great to have this back and running, but the place gets VERY full - doorstaff with shoehorns methinks.. Seems to be getting increasingly cyber, which may or may not float your boat - try it anyway.

Top music, peeps, drinks, etc. Gets far too busy to enjoy it. If it gets a better, bigger venue, will rock! Also was good with the separate room upstairs for cyber.

I have only visited this place once, but it was a wonderful experience. Excellent music, the barstaff knew what a Deep Red was, and made me one straight away, and there were some incredibly beautiful beings, flouncing about in 17th century clothing... I hope to return soon...

The Wendyhouse is well wortyh a visit as it plays a fantastic mix of music of all genres. If i were to voice 1 criticism though it would be that a 2nd room is definately needed desperately as the dance floor and surrounding space can get very crowded.

Excellent music and crowd and as soon as they change the venue so it's not impossibly crowded I'll be back ;-)

A great night out - musically something for everyone, request friendly DJ types, laid back clubgoers, a nice 'vibe', and drink promos to boot (Two words - vodka slushy!). Just open the damn second room so more people can sample it's delights..

fab night in general, great for a meat up and giggle, although it tends to get a bit hot and squished up in there, so arrive early for tickets and tables.

I went for the first time this month and quite simply HAD THE BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!! Everyone is so friendly, the music is great. Believe me, I was soooo nervous about going, but I'd have no problems going on my own in future. Simply the best :)

Leeds answer to Sheffield's Dissolution. Not quite as good, but this may change when they get the bigger venue at the uni in Feb. Like Diss., the play a whole range of goffy stuff, but it's usually different stuff, to that's good. Worth a visit.

Submitted by:Hemlock / 2002-01-05

Not quite on the same scale as Sheffields Dissolution but could easily be if they found a larger venue lke they used to have in the past - forget trying to find somewhere to sit or swing a cat. Still, West Yorkshires best club and at a reasonable price. More cyber/industrial than goth like most places unfortunately going these days but still recommended.

Ohmigod! How much more fantastic was it at the Union than it was at The Bassment. Well worth the £4 it costs to get in, and I'l buy tickets in advance for March 16th, cos I think it'll sell out. Drinks are a little more expensive than I thought it would be though!

The new venue rocks. They've totaly refurbished the uni venue and it's now even bigger than before. The bar is HUGE and they also have a funky sunken dancefloor and guess what...No fire alarms going off all the time due to the smoke machine and there is also two rooms One for all us normal people and one for the Cybers (only joking guys I love you Cybers really)

Betta than anything we have in newcastle and much better in the bigga venue, we'll be back soon!! Separating the trad\80's from all that bangin techno was a good idea too.

Now it in the Union again, It was first time at WendyHouse and it was great, everyone is friendly and both rooms have great mixes. I had a realy good night even if as a none drinker half a coke was expencive at £1.45, but the free lollies made up for it a bit. I will definatly go back

I love this place, I have been a few times before and I have never had a bad night yet. The beer is cheap at £1.45 a pint - woohoo. The place is huge and there is ace air conditioning that blows your hair everywhere!!! I wish the place was closer to me than Leeds.

Wendy House, Mmmm well it's still good to ok, not as good as when it first started though! Why? Well I have to disagree about the Music being good in truth this is an 80's alternative night don't expect to find anything that's goth/ebm/industrail except the obvious. Oh and people dressing up eg pretending to be, I now find it full of weekend "gothers" , yuk!

The new venue is HUGE which means its lost some of that intimacy if had before and you can go the whole night without seeing mates that are there but there is actually room to dance!!! -the huge video projection of cartoons onto the backwall is an inspired idea - still the best night out to be had!

An amazing night out with an atmosphere that cannot seem to be beaten. There is something for most in the 2 rooms. There is plenty of room on the dancefloor in the main room and the beer is cheap too - bonus!!! It is definately worth making the monthly trip over the pennines to.

The Wendyhouse is the only night I have been to that has not been spoilt by my personal life. Very fun, friendly atmosphere, cheap and never lets me down. My advice is to go if you havent and you will be a happy bunny.

The first time I've been to a big club in years and years and years. Absolutely excellent! Great music both old and new (I kept away from the industrial floor as the couple of times I went in there what they were playing didn't appeal). As a sad old goth I remember many of the old tracks first time around and some, which would have filled the floor, now seem to clear it but I suppose time moves on. Wonderful people, most seem to have made an effort with all styles being present from trad to cyber. - I would thoroughly recomend this venue.

now ive been a longterm adherent to WH, but am gfreatly alarmed with the number of underaged kids turning up recently (perhaps directly related to the large amount of new metal being played in main room). it wouldnt be so bad, but when theres a 15year old bragging about how old she is, in a state trying to chat up a bewildered 34yr old maybe its time to start id-ing.

The music has improved recently I think, first few times I went I remember a lot of bad 80s pop music being played and not much else, maybe I was too drunk, or not drunk enough! Anyway its a great night out, good venue and lots of cool people.

The atmosphere was excellent, except for at the bar... its just a little cramped (understatement) there. We were on the stage in the 80's room. Music selection left a little to be desired. Mutate was more my scene, but i was split between the two because i had friends with me. I managed to miss both Assemblage tracks :( Good venue, good atmosphere, shame about the bar.

One of the best nights out around! The venue is a good size, the dance pit is big enough to hold everyone when the popular stuff is on, the drink prices aren't bad. The music is good in general though I wish they'd play less top 40 pop tracks like Rachel Stevens, Disturbed, Prodigy and Evanescence as well as less techno/EBM in general (they have their own room for that stuff after all) and more gothrock. :) Now what would make this place perfect is if there was somewhere nearby where taxis would pick you up because it's about 30 mins away (depending how drunk everyone is!) to the nearest taxi rank.

"Now what would make this place perfect is if there was somewhere nearby where taxis would pick you up because it's about 30 mins away (depending how drunk everyone is!) to the nearest taxi rank." There is a taxi rank right outside the main steps on Woodhouse Lane 2 mins walk from the Union venue.

I know but it's ridiculously expensive from there, we've had taxi drivers wanting to charge us 40 quid just to go to Wakefield, which is why we don't even bother trying anymore and just go to the taxi rank nearby the Hotel Metropole and Ainsleys.

A very good night out but have to agree with some previous posts it is at times a little like a school disco and there are lots of underage people in and around the place. The atmosphere was very friendly but some of the music left a little to be desired still most people seemed to be enjoying it. But all in all a good night out with very reasonably priced drinks and lots of shiny happy people!!!!

Yeah so this post might make me unpopular, but here goes. The wendy house was a huge disapointment. Dont get me wrong, the atmosphere was great and everyone was really cool and friendly. But the music really sucked. They played the F*****g Kaizer Cheifs for gods sake. What the hells all that about!?! We couldnt take it anymore and had to leave early. And after drivin all the way down from newcastle aswell.

well, it used to be good...but i stopped going when they started playing things like the rasmus, darkness and blur. i thought this was meant to be a goth club? the cyber room's still cyber tho, so that's a plus i guess. there's still a good atmosphere, and the dj's have always played songs i've requested on the website beforehand. but still that doesn't cancel out the bad points for me which is a shame cos i used to really enjoy it.

My feelings on the current Wendyhouse are similar to kittywreck's and trybergoth's. Too much pop music is played and whatever rock band is hot in the charts that month. The crowd that go there seems different too, like everyone who used to go don't go anymore. The new room they've opened sounds good but if it's going to cost five quid to get into WH now I'm probably not going to bother.

well me and My girlfriend ventured from Rotherham to leeds, to goto the much talked about goth/alternative night, Wendyhouse. It was not what we Expected. Nothing but teeny boppers dancing around hand bags. very few 'goths' and when the Kizer cheafs got played that did it, we left and made the return trip to the corporation. won't be going again. sorry
