"Guns 'n Roses, Deftones, Offspring, Nirvana " ...and this qualifies as a goth hangout because...??

. . . because there's usually a bunch of goths there (I go there every week, at any rate), some of whom take along their own CDs, which get played. There's a lot of goth / metal crossover stuff - there's always at least two Rammstein songs, plus Marilyn Manson and Fear Factory, and The Cure are regularly on the turntables (well, CD player). There's other good stuff, ranging from NIN to industrial bands so obscure only the person who brought the CD's ever heard of them. Basically, the DJ's the most down-to-earth one you'll ever come across. Give him two CDs, he'll play one. (Both if you're ginger and female.) I love it there. (I'm usually the first person on the dance floor, that nutter who headbangs all night and keeps her coat on.) And they do drinks promotions. Only problem is, it's got over-popular, which means it gets Very Hot and recently there've been some suicide moshers. Oh well, nothing a few spiky bracelets can't sort out. Oh yeah - bring your own toilet roll, since there's never any. Also bring a torch, since the lights in the toilet cubicles don't work.

Yes, I know, espacially the cockrock, nu-metal and other strange things the dj plays can be kind of annoying sometimes... But I have also heard The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, Type O Negative, Rammstein, Joy Division and other goth-ish stuff. And you can bring your own cds, the dj will probably play some of them. Apart from that, there are cheap drink promotions and look around, you'll see some goths :-) And it's hard enough to find an alternative night in Canterbury.

I know what you mean, but as I said, it's hard enough to find an alternative night in Canterbury, and the dj's really a nice bloke although I think he's got a dubious taste in music, he will play some good songs if you bring the cds... But yes, Canterbury is crap, if you look at the long list of shops & pubs on this site you might think it's a cool place, but don't be fooled, it's not. It's dead and ruled by conservative christians. We've often been dreaming of organising a proper gothic/industrial night in Canterbury, but apart from the lack of a decent venue, there probably wouldn't even be enough interest to break even. Luckily London isn't that far away I guess...

My I also add that I'm the ginger fiend that Zed was referring to. It's true that Gaz (DJ) will play most of what I ask him to, so just pester me and I'll subsequently pester him, and everybody will get their own way.... :)

easy to get him to play what you want smile sweetly and work that cleavage. ok for a pub is not as good as a club but at least you dont have to spend hours getting ready spend a fortune on a train ticket and pay entry. a good way to start the week.

pretty good i thought, a resonable amount of black metal was played: dimmu borgir and dark throne. Some company was dissagreeable though...

This Schrek1348 adding a few thoughts about Fright Night @ The Beercart... I suppose that a percentage of the tunes played on Monday night might not to be every one's palette, bu then again it supposedlyt takes all sorts to make or break a world. The Beercart Arms is a wonderful place in which to hang out, watch the night unfold, talk to old and not sold acquaintances and bang you head, beats Monday nights in Folkestone talons down...

Bit late but "make for approximate centre of high street, then turn down alley next to post office". Alternatively, "turn down road leading to Waterstones and HMV, then turn right to find yourself on Beercart Lane".
