Formed in 1995 in LA, SOAD mix metal, punk, jazz, traditional Armenian folk music and pretty much any other musical style you can think of really... They released their eponymous debut album in 1998 to critical acclaim. Their second album, 'Toxicity' took the blueprint laid down by the first album and made it into something truly special. With standout tracks like the singles, 'Chop Suey' and 'Toxicity', and politically-charged songs like 'Deer Dance' and 'Prison Song', SOAD have intelligence, passion and two truly talented songwriters; genius guitarist Daron Malakian and singer Serj Tankian, whose voice can go from a croon to a roar in the same song.
With a fanbase that spans metallers, goths, 'normies' and dance music fans, there's something in System of a Down's music for everyone. |

I have never heard a voice quite like Serj Tankian's. It can be haunting, mellow, angry ... it's really like nothing you've ever heard before. And coupled with the rest of SOAD's extremely original and excellent music, you've got a killer combo that stands out from its peers.
