Description, by Lost Above All
Ex-bassist of the Norwegian black metal group Emperor, Mortiis developed his own style from within this band. Now a solo artist and heavily influenced by Nine Inch Nails his works are now ambient, electro and with a slight hint of goth rock throughout. |

From someone previously in the infamous Norwegian black metallers Emperor, many expected Mortiis' solo work to be just as brutal. It was quite the opposite! His early albums are an ocean of keyboards and icy ambience.. almost the soundtrack to a fantasy movie. So if thats what you're into, you'll probably find them stunning. Recently Mortiis changed his direction from the instrumental story telling of old to a surprisingly more accesible electro sound. 'A smell of rain' practically screams 'retro!' and takes a lot of influence from NIN and Enigma. Wonderfully catchy (although fairly cringeworthy at times), Mortiis is probably far better off creating music of this style and calibre.
