Description, by jen

Founding members Brendan Perry & Lisa Gerrard have always resisted the pigeonholing of their music - they used to record in a 150-year-old Irish church, & however it might be classified, their stuff is grand & atmospheric. DCD isn't together as a band anymore but they've all moved on to solo work, details of which are available at their website (url above).

IMHO the best track on here is 'Saltarello' - really cool Italian Renaissance style instrumental work.

The album in itself is not very good, as many of the songs are boring. But! "Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove" and "Wind that shakes the Barley" are great!

During their Realm/Serpents/Aion phase, Dead can Dance were unstoppable and untouchable. Their brand of melding ethereal and neoclassical music with Lisa and Brendan's wonderful vocals were unique and inspired. This is possibly the most consistent of those three albums, quality-wise, and the most varied musically, drawing heavily on both the ethereal and neoclassical sides the other two albums use more exclusively. this album is worth it for "The Writing On My Father's hand", "The Host of Seraphim" and "Ulysses" alone.

I kinda stumbled across this band by accident... but i'm so glad i did. First somg i heard was "summoning of the muse" as the background to a trailer for a docu-film. I then spent hours trying to track down a song in neither knew the name nor artist. When finally someone could tell me who it was i bought the album and i have never looked back. This is the perfect album for sitting back and relaxing, something to listen to while you work... anything really. It's been the best buy of my year.
