Description, by jen

Founding members Brendan Perry & Lisa Gerrard have always resisted the pigeonholing of their music - they used to record in a 150-year-old Irish church, & however it might be classified, their stuff is grand & atmospheric. DCD isn't together as a band anymore but they've all moved on to solo work, details of which are available at their website (url above).

Even though it is, in my opinion, impossible to collect all the good songs by DCD on one single cd, this anthology contains very many of them. And even if you already have all the other DCD albums, "A Passage in Time" is worth buying . The combination of songs is nice, changing naturally from medieval to neo-classical to ethereal etc. The album also contains two new songs, "Bird" and "Spirit"(very nice).

This is arguably, at least for DCD purists, where it all started going horribly wrong. Further influencing their music with World and Folk styles, they lost their focus somewhat, and as a result this album feels a bit disjointed. Better than later pfferings, this one just about holds together, but it's obvious where the seeds of their split came from (ironically, to each do work closer to early DCD!). If you have the other albums already, it's worth a try, but don't expect too much.

A great ethereal album, and it starts off with a sinister first song, Host Of Seraphim, also my favorite Dead can Dance song, nice album.

Buy this album if not for any other reason but to hear L.G's live recording of Sanvean. It is one of the most moving renditions ever sung live. Definetly goosebump material...Also Piece for Solo Flute is another remarkably moving track. I prefer this album to all the others I have of DCD.

Within The Realm Of A Dying Sun

I kinda stumbled across this band by accident... but i'm so glad i did. First somg i heard was "summoning of the muse" as the background to a trailer for a docu-film. I then spent hours trying to track down a song in neither knew the name nor artist. When finally someone could tell me who it was i bought the album and i have never looked back. This is the perfect album for sitting back and relaxing, something to listen to while you work... anything really. It's been the best buy of my year.
