Join hands, recorded 1979, as the second Banshees record features more punk classiscs, including a few chart singles: Playground Twist and Icon. The Short, eight track album is slightly less accessible than some of the later banshees records, and it may be a better idea to hear the better tracks from "once upon a time", the compilation album to get a feel for it first.

JuJu contains the Goth-hits "Nightshift", "Spellbound" and the socio-political "Arabian Nights". Overall, this is an excellent example of post-punk / proto-goth music. It's a tad aggressive, yet generally creepier than the Scream.
Earlier pressings of this album (and, seeing as this album's as old as I am, these pressings were on 33RPM record) also included a bonus 45RPM single of "Isreal", which later endeded up on the singles collection Once Upon A Time.

Kaleidoscope, 1980, is my personal Favourite Banshees album. It has a really good sound, and some true classic tracks. This is evident from their inclusion on the "Once upon a time" best of compilation, and the fact they are almost overplayed at goth nights throughout the country. "Happy House", "Red Light" (siouxsie at her BEST), "Christine" and "Hybrid" are all worth a listen, even if the Banshees arent your personal taste.

Impressive collection of their early punk hits. Includes the brilliant 'Spellbound', 'Christine' and 'Arabian Knights'.
Siouxsie and Co are currently working on new Banshees and Creatures stuff for this year, which should be good. But right now you can sit down (or pogo dance) to their songs of old. Absolutely recommended.

A bit of a mixed bag of an album, this.
Although it doesnt contain many immediate grab-you by-the-throat classics such as spellbound etc., compared to other siouxsie albums this record still includes some real gems.
Case in point: the fantastic album closer 'love out me'. You know you're onto a winner from the second this song begins with the immortal lines
"I smash the glass into my face..."!
Other highlights include 'Oh Baby' and 'Falling Down'.

Fantastically diverse and interesting album of cover versions, with Auntie Soo and the boys covering everything from Iggy Pop and the Doors to, erm, Kaa the snake, from Disney's Jungle Book :-} A wonderful and surprising album.

Twice Upon a Time

|
Featured comment (1/1) by Cesare Kemmler on 2003-10-25
Twice upon a time is of course the second of a 'best of/singles' album.
It boasts a neat mix of older hits up to later songs, ie; the fantastic 'face to face' as featured
in Tim Burtons Batman Returns (1992). A worthy addition, it offers only more Siouxsie brilliance and I would recommend it to new comers alike.
There latest greatest hits collection is 'Dizzy' which features a new track entitled, er..Dizzy. However Twice upon a time strkes me as a stronger, more eclectic collection of the Banshee's tunes.
